US sets conditions for the transfer of nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia

According to international news agencies, US Energy Secretary, Rick Perry, sent to Saudi Arabia’s former energy minister, Khalid Al-Faleh, on September 4th, a message regarding the conditions and concerns of the United States on the nuclear technology transfer to Saudi Arabia.

The message contained conditions on the transfer of nuclear technology, including Saudi Arabia’s abstention to enriching reprocessing uranium. Washington has also stipulated that Saudi must agree to the International Atomic Energy Agency carrying out appropriate and well thought out inspections in the country.

It also noted that the US administration will not allow South Korea to sell nuclear reactors to Saudi Arabia, pointing out that Seoul has previously expressed its intention to sell nuclear reactors that include US technology to Saudi Arabia.

In last March, US Energy Secretary, Rick Perry, had admitted that he agreed to grant licenses to US companies to sell nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia.
