Turbine Technologies AAEM will supply the turbine to Akkuyu

Turbine Technologies AAEM, a joint venture established in St Petersburg in 2007, between Atomenergomash JSC (51%) and General Electric (49%), within the framework of the contract with the Rosatom Engineering Division – Atomenergomash has concluded an agreement with Alstom Power Systems (part of General Electric) for the manufacture of the main equipment of the steam turbine for each conventional island of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant. According to the document, the equipment should be supplied annually from 2021 to 2024 on the basis of the construction schedule for each power unit.

The Joint Venture “Turbine Technologies AAEM” was established in 2007 to complete the engine rooms of the nuclear power plants with Russian design. “The contract for the manufacture of turbine equipment and auxiliary systems for the Akkuyu nuclear power plant is a very important stage in the development of the joint venture, as well as in strengthening long-term cooperation between the AEM and GE as shareholders and participants in this strategic project,” declared Andrey Nikipelov, CEO of Atomenergomash.

Earlier, JSC Atomenergomash concluded an agreement on the complete delivery of turbine equipment for the Turkish power plant. The list includes turbine units, pipeline fittings, pump, heat exchanger (moisture separator reheaters, condensers, deaerators, HP/LP heaters) and other equipment. The company is also a complete supplier of equipment for a nuclear steam-generating plant for all power units of the plant, including reactor plants, pump units, protection systems, pipelines, etc. All the main production sites of the division will be involved in the implementation of both contracts.

The Akkuyu nuclear power plant project includes four power units with Russian WWER-1200 reactors of the “3+” generation, which meet the highest safety standards. The capacity of each power unit of the NPP will be 1200 MW.

Turbine Technology AAEM main lines of business include:

  • Manufacture of steam turbines and generators with ratings 1000 – 1800 MW based on the half-speed ARABELLE™ technology.
  • Integration and delivery of equipment packages using the half-speed ARABELLE technology for turbine islands of nuclear power plants with Russian VVER-type reactors
  • Service and retrofit of nuclear power plant turbine island equipment.

AAEM is headquartered in St. Petersburg. With the assistance of GE-Alstom and Atomenergomash, the JV has integrated up-to-date software for heat balance/pipe stress calculations and 3D-simulation, which enables the Company to analyse and offer to the Customer the most efficient design solutions for both power plant construction and retrofit projects.

AAEM benefits from half-speed ARABELLE™ Turbine Generator Set technology recognized as the best technologies in the world. It offers to the Customer the most efficient NPP turbine island construction concept. In 2010 AAEM jointly with NIAEP and GE Alstom developed a standard ARABELLE with an efficiency of more than 37.7 % and reliability of 99.96%.
