The tragedy of China’s inland provinces

China’s 2017 Nuclear Energy Plan sealed the fate of the Inland Nuclear Power Projects, while the coastal nuclear power plants continue to grow.

In a recent press conference, the director of the National Nuclear Safety Administration confirmed that developing the nuclear energy is a must for China to ensure the energy safety, however, the“thirteenth Five-year Plan”, has no specific and clear schedule for the startup of the inland nuclear project.

The Chinese government summarize the future of inland project, as follow: assessment of the safety, but protection of the nuclear site. Taking into consideration the directions of the five years plan and its mandatory execution by the operators, there is no official commitment of inland project for the next five to ten years.

The inland provinces will continue to relay on the fossil fuel, bouncy delivery of coals and large impact on the environment.
