The cooperation between the Saudi Atomic Energy City and the United States

On July 30, Dr. Khalid Bin Saleh Al-Sultan, President of King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (K.A.CARE), received at his office, at the city’s headquarters in Riyadh, the US Ambassador to the Kingdom, John Abizaid and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, they reviewed aspects of joint cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States in the fields of peaceful uses of atomic energy and discussed the directions of the National Atomic Energy Project in the Kingdom. The meeting was attended by a number of officials in the city and representatives of the US Embassy in the Kingdom.

Dr. Al-Sultan pointed out that the National Energy Project of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia focuses on the importance of mutual cooperation in terms of scientific and technical education and training, as well as the exchange of experts, scientists, technicians and lecturers because of their great positive impact on the development of national human resources working in these fields, to achieve the objectives of the vision of the Kingdom 2030.

The two sides discussed the latest developments in cooperation in the fields of nuclear energy research and cooperation in the development of human capabilities and competencies in the field of nuclear energy as well as in the field of radioactive waste management.

Dr. Al-Sultan stressed the importance of the United States as a partner in those fields, noting that this cooperation between the two countries requires high-precision preparation at all stages by harnessing the necessary elements for development and careful supervision of the progress of each stage; as the energy sector is of strategic importance to the Kingdom.
