Saudi Arabia does not have the right infrastructure for a nuclear power plant

In an interview with the Middle East newspaper, Alexander Novak, Minister of Energy declared that Russia is interested in “the implementation of a large infrastructure and energy plan in Saudi Arabia: “Saudi Arabia is a country where the nuclear infrastructure does not exist, which makes the implementation of the nuclear program extremely difficult”. But he added that Russia has very rich experiences in the creation of this structure in other countries, like Bangladesh and Vietnam, as well as the joint projects, which are currently under construction in Turkey, Jordan and Egypt.

Russia and Saudi Arabia held in the summer of 2015 the intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. Last March, the Saudi government ratified this Convention, which is considered as a core document and legal framework to open the way for cooperation between Russia and Saudi Arabia.
