PSR is going global and wins competition in Tunisia

The Brazilian Consulting firm PSR is going global to Tunisia. PSR will deliver optimal planning tools for generation and transmission expansion and medium and long-term operation (OPTGEN & SDDP models). Besides, PSR will sell training in the use of tools and best practices for studies on renewables’ integration.

Tunisia has been adopting a transitional energy policy since 2014 that aims to achieve a 30% share of renewable energy in electricity production by 2030. To this end, the country has established a regulatory framework to encourage investments in these sources. However, the major challenge that all actors face in this process is how to optimize and accelerate implementation.

Therefore, the goal was to acquire expansion planning software focusing on the integration of renewable energy sources in the Tunisia system, on behalf of STEG – Société Tunisienne de l’électricité et du Gaz, which in free translation is the Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas.

One of STEG’s objectives is, with the tools, to define and quantify the services necessary for the system to absorb high levels of penetration of renewables, the technologies that can provide them, and the associated costs. The country has about 6 GW of installed generation capacity, with a strong presence of natural gas.

PSR expanded in its third country in that region. Institutions in Egypt and Morocco’s energy sector already use the company’s tools for planning, operating, and integrating renewables studies.
