Nuclear power still a challenge for India

At the Bloomberg Global Business Forum, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that India’s nuclear program is facing a significant hurdle: the local supply of nuclear fuel.

India is not a signatory and member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group, and critical components for the nuclear fuel can’t be imported.

India is seeking a local solution for nuclear fuel and becoming a role model in the region. China has always locked obstacles in the way of India’s membership in this 48-member group. Ever since India’s application for membership of the NSG in May 2016, China has insisted that only those countries that have signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty be part of the organization. India did not sign it.
