Economics of Nuclear Power at the India Energy Forum

Last October (18th), the Union Minister of Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh, inaugurated the 11th Nuclear Energy Conclave in New Delhi. The conference was organized by India Energy Forum (IEF) on the theme of Economics of Nuclear Power – Innovation towards Safer & Cost-effective Technologies. 

The conclave had three technical sessions under the theme: 

  • Growth of the Nuclear Power for Meeting Base Load Demands – Opportunities and Challenges for Manufacturing Industry 
  • Use of the Nuclear Energy in Healthcare and Municipal Waste Treatment 
  • Emerging Technologies for Economy and Enhanced Safety through Small & Medium Size reactors, Passive Safety features, Molten Salt Reactors 

Dr. Jitendra Singh announced that the government started setting up new nuclear power plants in other parts of India, and one such nuclear plant is being set up in Gorakhpur, Haryana. 

Dr. Singh said that during the last five years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India achieved a lot in the field of nuclear energy. In this context, he referred to Dr. B. Burua of Guwahati, Cancer Institute, saying that it has been linked with Mumbai’s Tata Memorial Center for Cancer.  

Dr. Singh inaugurated the Hall of Nuclear Energy in Pragati Maidan in Delhi. It aimed to educate the students and the general public about the applications of nuclear energy.

NBN tipThe India Energy Forum was established in 2001 to understand India’s Nuclear Energy Program. Now, it has a special status as a spokesman of India’s entire energy sector. Several public and private nuclear organizations, oil and gas organizations, Renewable energy organizations are members of India Energy Forum. Some of them are – NHPC, NTPC, Power Grid Corporation, ONGC, Power Finance Corporation, among others.
