The Fifth Arab Forum on the Prospects of Nuclear Power for Electricity Generation and Seawater Desalination

The option of electricity generation and water desalination with nuclear energy has become a strategic option for Arab countries to respond to water resources scarcity and industrial and socio-economic development. Many Arab countries have expressed their interest in adopting nuclear energy for electricity generation and seawater desalination and sought assistance from IAEA and AAEA.

The Forum aims to include the nuclear option of electricity generation and seawater desalination in the Members states strategies to diversify energy resources. It offers an opportunity for many countries to deepen their study about their domestic conditions, their environment, and their strategies for a sustainable nuclear power option.

OBJECTIVES

The Forum program includes 18 fields of expertise presented by Arab decision-makers, IAEA staff, and other specialists as well as papers by invited vital speakers. The Forum provides panel discussions with and among the participants.

ORGANIZERS

ARAB ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY (AAEA)

The AAEA is a specialized Arab scientific organization working within the scope of the Arab League. It is concerned with nuclear science and its applications in the peaceful field. The Authority is also interested in creating scientific and technical awareness among Arab citizens in nuclear sciences and their peaceful uses.

Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA)

The Nuclear Power Plants Authority was established by Law No.13 of the year 1976 and amendments by Law No. 210 of the year 2017, to be a public economic authority of special nature that is affiliated to the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy. The Nuclear Power Plants Authority is exclusively entrusted with establishing, operating and managing nuclear power plants in Egypt and is headquartered in Cairo.

LEAGUE OF ARAB STATES (LAS)

The LAS is a regional organization bringing together all Arab countries, with the purpose of promoting and strengthening cooperation among its members.

ARAB UNION OF ELECTRICITY (AUE)

The AUE was established in 1987 as a gesture of a group of Arab electrical companies with the purpose of strengthening ties between members to improve power manufacturing in the Arab World. The AUE is situated in Amman, the Hashemite kingdom of Jordan. It consists of 19 countries which are: – Jordan, UAE, Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Iraq, Sultanate of Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritania and Yemen.
