Algeria resumes a joint solar energy project with a German company

The Algerian Ministry of Energy and Mines announced that the country’s caretaker government intends to resume work on the solar energy project, which was supervised by the German foundation “DESERTEC”; and indicated that a memorandum of understanding will be signed between the parties involved in the project soon.

According to the statement issued by the ministry, on 4th of December, this step aims to “develop the axes of cooperation with the German (Dii Desert Energy) in the field of renewable energies,” in addition to “enhancing the capabilities of producing and integrating renewable energies into the Algerian energy matrix”.

The Algerian Ministry of Energy is seeking to revive the project, after years of freezing it without disclosing the reasons, through which it aims to “launch and implement technical and economic studies to take advantage of solar and wind energy, generalize renewable energies, and promote joint projects for the development of renewable energies at national and international scales and joint promotion of search in the field of manufacture, installation, exploitation and storage of renewable energies,” according to the statement.
