Russia reveals the details of El Dabaa Nuclear power plant contract

Mr. Rashid Sadikov*, Russian Consul General in Alexandria, declared recently that Moscow and Egypt agreed to build two of the four nuclear power units in the north of the country.

During his stay at the Russian consulate in Alexandria, he said that the first contract is related to the construction and the operation of the plant. The second contract is to train Egyptian cadres not only in the plant operation, but also in the nuclear energy field.

Counsellor Sadikov stressed the continuation of consultations between both countries will lead to the review of the contracts and the completion of the agreement of the first project of nuclear energy in North Africa. He pointed out that Egypt will reveal more details about the construction project.

The agreement to build and operate the first nuclear plant in Dabaa region is based on a Russian loan of 25 billion dollars to finance the construction of the project, which will be implemented within 7 years. This loan represents 85% of the cost, and consists of four units of 1200 MW each.

* Mr. Rashid Sadikov is born in 1958. He graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and joined the diplomatic service in 1984. He speaks Arabic and English and served for the Ministry of Foreign affairs in Yemen, Qatar, and Syria for six years (2007-2013). He is the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Alexandria, Egypt since March 2015. Mr. Sadikov has a  the diplomatic rank of Minister Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the 2nd class.
